Our support for DV Stops With Me- Real Men Rally

We are proud to stand with our community at the Real Men Rally – DV Stops With Me. This is more than just an event! it is a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in breaking the cycle of domestic and family violence.

Violence thrives in silence, but when we come together: men, women, families, and leaders, we send a clear message! Domestic violence has no place in our homes, our relationships, or our community.

Being at this event meant standing up for respect, equality, and safety. It means showing courage, not just in words, but in action—calling out harmful behaviour, supporting survivors, and raising the next generation to know that love never hurts.

Powerful speeches at the DV Stops With Me- Real Men Rally!

Some powerful speakers made vital points in relation to changing the culture in Australia where violence can thrive behind closed doors.

Sean Gordon OAM spoke about Australian values and what has not been realised is half of the population experiences a different Australia from the other half. He spoke of how his wife, daughters, female family members and friends didn’t experience the same sense of safety as their male counterparts did due to fear of male violence. That we need to create an Australia that is safe for all. Event co-ordinator Karen Ahl from Web-Sta web design also spoke of the importance of creating safer communities.

Reverend Paul Clark delivered a powerful speech on relationships, reminding us that the home should be the safest place. He warned of the dangers in ideologies like those promoted by Andrew Tate, which encourage young men to believe they must be worshipped like kings—yet as he said; kings who get used to being surrounded only by servants often become tyrants. In contrast, he emphasised that true fulfilment lies in relationships built on mutual love and respect, not on false premises that can never bring lasting happiness.”

Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery made some important take home points also in relation to creating safer communities.

We listened to important leaders in our community speak out and invoke thought around the prevention and reality of domestic and family violence. We listened to victim survivors such as Lou Feltham Smith from the Miracle Mums Movement – Women’s Wellbeing Workshops spoke of the need to tackle the issue of domestic and family violence as a community. She spoke of the need to listen to survivors as they hold the key to the answers: Lou said:

“We can’t do it alone, we can’t do it as one person, we can’t do it alone, we have to do it as a community, we have to do it in collaboration and we have to start listening to survivors because survivors hold the key to the answers.”

Kerri Anne Dooley- MP also spoke as a victim-survivor and as a State member. She covered the improvements that have now been implemented in Queensland to make Queensland safer for victim survivors.

We also heard from members of QPS and the important work they are doing in the domestic and family violence space. One story that stood out was that of an officers first dv call out. He learnt that day the importance of believing victim survivors.

It was great to see grassroots and local organisations supporting this event and providing information on what they do inlcuding CADA, Lions, and many more.

Let’s work towards building a community built on compassion, kindness and respect!

We are grateful to be part of a community that chooses compassion over control, kindness over cruelty, and respect over violence. Together, we can build communities that are safe, strong, and free from domestic violence.

Importantly, the Videography and photography by multi award winning *including Emmy Award winning international videographer and journalist Jorge Nieto from Antipodes Visuals.

The important take home message from this event is that we pledge that DV stops with me. DV stops with us.
