We’re delighted to share that Terry Anderssen Lawyers has been named a finalist in the 2026 Local Business Awards for Brisbane City.
It’s a genuine honour and one that means a great deal to us, because of where it comes from.
Why the Local Business Awards matter to us
What makes this recognition special is that it doesn’t come from an industry panel or a marketing budget. It comes from the people we serve.
The Local Business Awards have been celebrating Australian businesses for more than forty years, and what sets the program apart is that finalists are nominated by their own customers and communities. Every nomination is somebody taking a moment out of their day to say that a business looked after them well.
For more than thirty years, our firm has been part of Brisbane’s northside. From our beginnings in Zillmere, to Chermside, and now to our home in Nundah, we’ve had the privilege of helping local families through some of the most significant moments of their lives — buying a first home, planning an estate, navigating a separation, or saying goodbye to someone they love.
To be nominated by that same community is the best feedback we could ask for.
A family firm, three generations on
The Anderssen family’s connection to the law goes back generations — all the way to the family’s origins in Sweden, where earlier generations served as lawyers and judges. Terry Anderssen began his own career working alongside his father before establishing this practice in 1993.
More than forty years into his career, and a long-standing member of the Queensland Law Society and the North Brisbane Lawyers Association, Terry still believes what he believed then: that clients deserve not only excellent legal advice, but genuine personal care.
In 2025, his daughter Sophia Anderssen became a Director and Partner of the firm — carrying that legacy into its next chapter. Between our team, we bring over seventy years of combined legal experience across family law, wills and estates, conveyancing, and business law.

What the Local Business Awards don’t measure
Awards are lovely. But the things we’re proudest of rarely come with a trophy.
We’re proud that from 1993 until the end of 2024, we assisted vulnerable members of our community through Legal Aid — alongside decades of pro bono work — because we’ve never accepted that justice should depend on what someone can afford. That’s also why we offer flexible Pay at the End funding for eligible clients, and heavily discounted rates for pensioners preparing their Wills.
We’re proud of the hours our team has worked outside ordinary business hours to help people escaping family violence and coercive control, when timely legal advice can genuinely change a life. We’re proud of the families we’ve helped through urgent recovery applications in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, where children have been at risk — some of the most meaningful work we ever do.
And we’re proud that we’ve been able to take legal information beyond our own client base. Through our social media, we’ve shared plain-English updates on Wills and enduring powers of attorney, on parenting and property, and on the criminalisation of coercive control — with one video alone reaching more than 371,000 views and shared over 4,700 times. Helping people understand their rights before they need them is, we think, part of the job.

We’re a Nundah business, and we like being one.
You’ll find us marching each year in the Moreton Bay Says No to Violence rally, supporting the Real Men Say No to Violence Rally. You’ll find our stand at the Nundah Night Markets, as you have for the past two years. And you’ll find us at local networking events, supporting other small businesses in the area — because a strong local business community makes everyone stronger.
