The Local Business Awards recognise businesses their local community values. That framing matters to us.
Legal work is rarely something people come to us feeling good about. Clients arrive in the middle of a separation, after losing a parent. Even at the difficult end of a property matter that has become harder than anyone expected.

Three generations of lawyers in north Brisbane
The first Anderssen law firm opened in Queensland in 1935.
Terry Anderssen established Terry Anderssen Lawyers in 1993 and the firm has practised from north Brisbane ever since. Sophia Anderssen joined in 2010 and became Director in 2025 — the third generation of her family to practise law in this state.
Over that time the firm has acted for thousands of local families. From 1993 until the end of 2024, that included Legal Aid Queensland work, providing representation to people who could not otherwise afford it.
What has not changed across three generations is the kind of firm this is. The person you meet at your first appointment is the person handling your matter.

You will find us at the Nundah Night Markets, where we have held a stand for the past two years. We take part in the annual Moreton Bay Says No to Violence rally. Sophia and her son recently took part in the Live Like Her Challenge, raising funds for older women at risk of homelessness. We are members of our local Nundah business networking group and long-standing members of the North Brisbane Lawyers Association.

The team behind the award at our North Brisbane Law Firm
No award goes to one person, and this one certainly does not.
Georgia is our Legal Practice Manager and Senior Conveyancer. Tracey, our Practice Executive, has been front of house and central to running this firm for years. Jack Hoek, our Legal Assistant, greets most of the people who walk through our door while completing a dual business and law degree at QUT. Jorge is an award-winning videographer and photographer, and a Spanish-speaking legal assistant and translator. Terry Anderssen has led the team for generations with a culture of care. Sophia Anderssen has continued the Anderssen Legacy and continues to ensure our North Brisbane clients receive quality legal services.
Women make up half our team today and were the majority for most of this firm’s history. We offer flexible working for staff with caring responsibilities, job share arrangements, and support for wellbeing.
Our previous Office Manager was with us for two decades before retiring. That kind of retention is unusual in legal practice, and it is not accidental.
